Profile
Federal Reserve Bank of New York
As one of the 12 regional Reserve Banks in the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York plays a central role in the nation’s financial system. Serving the Second District, which includes New York State, Northern New Jersey, Fairfield County in Connecticut, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Bank is instrumental in implementing monetary policy, supervising and regulating financial institutions, and maintaining the stability of the financial system. It operates the Fedwire Funds and Securities Services—key platforms for the nation’s payments and securities services—and manages the execution of open market operations under the guidance of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC).
The New York Fed is unique among the Reserve Banks in that it holds permanent voting rights on the FOMC and acts as the principal point of contact with Wall Street and international financial markets. Its research and analysis support monetary policy with deep expertise in economics and finance. The Bank is also committed to public service through initiatives that promote financial education and community development throughout its district. Emphasizing transparency and outreach, the Bank regularly publishes research, conducts community advisory councils, and hosts public events to foster greater understanding of its mission.
